Collection and Use of Personal Information
Means of Collection
We collect personal information that you provide directly to us (through our Website or through other communication channels), and personal information that you may provide when you apply for, enter into, or repay a loan with us.
When you apply for a loan with us, we may also collect certain information about you directly from consumer and credit reporting agencies, as described in further detail below under "Credit Checks".
Our dealer partner representatives may provide you with our loan application materials, and collect completed loan applications. When they do so, they are collecting and processing your personal information on our behalf.
How we collect and use personal information
We may collect and use personal information in the following circumstances:
Applying for a Loan
When you apply for a loan with us, including when you complete a loan agreement (which may be presented to you by one of our dealer partners), we collect personal information on the loan application/agreement, including your legal name, installation address, home address, mailing address, email address, date of birth, and phone number. We collect information about the terms of the loan you are applying for, including the principal amount, term, amortization period, interest rate, fees, and other loan terms, and information about the goods and services that you are purchasing from our dealer partner. We may also collect additional information about your employment, business or income, including supporting documentation, for income verification purposes. We use this information to process your loan application.
Credit Checks
As part of your loan application, we may conduct a credit check by collecting personal information about you, including your legal name, current and former physical addresses, date of birth, age, place of employment and employment history. If you choose to provide it, we may also collect your Social Insurance Number (although this is optional). We use this information to confirm your identity, and to obtain credit checks and reports from consumer and credit reporting agencies about you. In conducting credit checks or obtaining credit reports, we may receive information from consumer and credit reporting agencies regarding your financial account histories including credit limits and balances, payment history, debts, consumer proposals, and public records (including bankruptcies and judgments), and information about your overall creditworthiness. We use this information to assess your creditworthiness and process your loan application.
Loan Agreement and Repayment
To administer your loan, we may collect personal information to facilitate repayment, such as information related to pre-authorized debit transactions, including banking information (account number, transit number, financial institution number, and branch details as found on a direct deposit form or void cheque).
Biometric Verification
To verify your identity, we may collect a picture of the front and back of your government-issued identification (e.g., driver's license, ID card, passport, or residency permit card) that you provide us or one of our service providers, and a "selfie" image, which is then compared to the picture of your ID to validate your identity. Our service providers use facial analytics and biometric markers to ensure that your "selfie" image matches to the government identification you have provided, and to confirm your identity.
